    Smartphones?

Great thing about this site is the diverse knowledge base we have here. Computer stuff, especially, so I'm betting this is a good audience for this question.

Been toying with the idea of a PDA style smartphone. What does everyone like? The Treo 650 or the Cingular 8125 Pocket PC?

I've seen they have some of the smaller clamshell phones they label as smartphones now, but I want something with an actual keyboard like the two above. I'm no serious computer guy - just looking for a phone with a bit more heft (yes, I'm tired of dinky clamshell phones), an organizer, and maybe a tad bit of e-mail. I have to carry a Motorola Talkabout 2way pager for work, and I may also even consider giving that back and having them use my mobil number for everything - that's why I want to keyboard.

I have had two different models of smartphones, and they are a compromise at best. The reception on the two I had was not stellar.
I do like having a PDA, but I think my next purchase is gonna be one of each. I want a phone to be a phone and a PDA to be a PDA --- just my .02 worth

    Im a treo user
Love the full keyboard, touchscreen, and availability of palm apps

As Ivanhoe stated the reception is not stellar but it works pretty good
its a good compromise since unlike Ivanhoe I will not carry both

Really? You can't just leave it at that - what was the problem?

Treo 650 user here, too - Cingular service.

You can PM, surf TALON while haulin down the interstate in the L, take pics/video, etc. But, as Michael (True_Blue_Aggie) as I were discussing about the Treo 650, you can try to "wake it up" out of it's sleep-mode, or what not, and it just sits there - then it will execute all he key-presses you performed in rapid-succession. It's random. Anyone else experience this? It's brand-new and no refurb.

I take out the battery and power-cycle it and it's all-good for a day or 3. Note, it has seen any washing machines or lawn-mowers....yet.

Other than that, it's a good phone with alot of capabilities. I haven't explored them all, as of yet.

I understand the new ones you can get GPS and XM/Sirius on them, too.

OMFG THE SKY IS FALLING THE SKY IS FALLING!!!!

How do you like it so far? If you're just playing around, check out the KNoppix LiveCD or LiveDVD, and Ubuntu.

I have the Treo also, if you don't install any outside programs it works great out of the box. No complaints until I started using third party software and I started getting some pretty odd restarts and such. Only thing I'd suggest is upgrading to a high capacity batter from the Treo 700's.
