"All of the incidents (36) occurred when the vehicle was parked and the ignition was turned off."
Huh- doesn't quite make sense
Hey Steve, Sara called and said there was some smoke coming from the garage and asked me what she should do. I told her to back the gen 2 out, drive it around in the rain for about 30 minutes pop the hood in the driveway and wait until you get home from Chicago.
Yeah, why anything is energized on the cruise control while the truck in off is justOriginally Posted by 99WhiteBeast
Think I'll park mine outside in the rain until I can get the switch disconnected. sounds really weird about the fires starting when the ignition is off, but I'd be really peeved to have the thing burn my house down.
we have a few guys at work who drive new f150's. I hope they get there trucks in before there's burns to the ground or there house down.

Did anyone see the news clip last night? It showed the master cylinder catching fire. Is that switch on the front of the master cylinder connected to the cruise control?
anyone other than me have a 2000 model?
Mine's a '00, and I just got back from the dealership getting the "fix". Not all '00 F150's are affected by the recall, so they'll have to check your VIN. Mine was subject to the recall, but I don't know if that means all the '00 L's are impacted. The "fix" at this point is very high tech. They unplug the electrical connector immediately in front of the master cylinder. The male end of the connector (the part on the master cyl) is left open, but the female end of the connector is wrapped with electrical tape to seal it against moisture, and then zip tied out of the way. That's it. The service tech said they really didn't know when they'd have replacement parts, but FoMoCo was telling them maybe by April. Apparently, they don't have a cure developed yet. He said the current "fix" does eliminate the fire hazard, but of course you don't have cruise control.
There has to be something more to this than what is being said. How would Redoing the switch do anything because you would still have an unprotected hot wire going to it? If that is the problem wouldn't they just put an inline fuse on the unprotected circuit? Something doesn't make sense with this?
