Just a new way to screw the consumer and grab some more tax money. How do they figure it is cheaper and better to outsource this $hit...

I just got the renewal for the L in the mail and it was still the same $40 to the state.

I sold the Mustang and am having those plates transferred to the new ride. They said that it would not be a problem, but we'll see in a couple of weeks if they let me transfer or if I have to start with the new company.

The metal plate itself is good for 8 years. When you have to get a new physical plate you will have to pay the new rates.

Even then I wonder if they will let me keep what I have on the plate. I have 4-digits on the plate and now they supposedly do not allow that.

If you have the plate all you do is renew it. The new rules and fees only apply to new plates.

Wonder when they started this ? I got three personalized plates last Sept and just got the renewals for them, all are $102.50 to renew, $40 of which is for "special plate fee"

Also in the envelope is a flier that says www.dmv.tx.gov is the new one stop shop for all things registration and titling.

That link will take you to what the DMV does handle, like dealer plates, charity plates, and so forth - it also will link you to MyPlates.com for regular specialty plates.

Meant to post this before.

"It's the second time My Plates has been associated with inflated details about its auction. The company initially said five other states raised millions for their budgets in similar sales, but The Dallas Morning News found that none had done so. My Plates apologized, calling it an unintentional error based on faulty research."
