Recession
We are in a recession when Chip Ganassi and Dario Vranchitti/Ashley Judd can't get a sponsor

I bet by the end of the year will see less than 43 cars qualifying, or just spares showing up.
Will NASCAR shorten races next? It happened in the 70s.

May not shorten them but might have to limit them to 65MPH to save gas!
-
it might be that they expect some type of results worth mentioning, for the amount of money the sponsors pay. Having a drivers name mentioned becasue he went home, again, or was in another wreck, or is one of those drivers many laps done doesn't seem to excite the sponsors too much.
I think it's great that these open wheel guys are struggling. Juan Pablo, included.

Racing is very expensive esp F1 and I don't see the payback for the companies. I think it is a frivolous write off and is one of the first items to get cut. GM has limited the Corvette Racing schedule and was originally only going to make 3 seasons with the C5 when it came out. How can you justify a 20 million dollar a year program when sales don't support it..
