    Lightning as a tow vehicle

We are going to Moab in a couple of months. I plan on using the Lightning as a tow vehicle for the Jeep. I will be flat towing. Am running a summer tune in the truck now.
Ant suggestions? What trans temp should I be concerned about? It has plenty of tq to pull the Jeep through the mountains.
If Terry is checking in, wonder if there is a tow tune I can load up?

No problem with overheating when towing, especially with stock converter. The 1/2 kit may present problems with bottoming due to lack of adequate suspension travel, depends upon tongue weight and rear springs and shocks used.

Thogg pulled his G1 everywhere with his G2, so you shouldn't have any problems, its usually good practice to not pull in overdrive unless your are on dead flat roads.

I'd say the only limitation to a Lightning towing is the tire rating. Otherwise it rolls on a F250 power train. You did say flat towing through mountains so braking could be a concern. toad braking options are pricey , hopefully you can keep speeds down and maintain control with downshifting and your brakes.

Thanks Terry, the Jeep doesn't like being towed over 65, so lower speeds aren't a problem. Brakes are EBC, so they work pretty well.

Made it to Moab. Weather was good and the temps didnt top 70 on the way out. Hottest the truck got was 190 for the engine and 188 for the trans. Intake temps were about 40 degrees above outside temps.

Good for you and the L. Moab's probably a good place to be at the moment.

Well, made it home without incident, except for the Jeep on the trails, but that's another forum.. The engine temps got just above 200 when climbing out of the valley and the trans temp got up to 198 as well, but then dropped to 183 engine and 168 trans when a front came through and dropped the outside temps to around 50. Overall the temps stayed in the 185-190 range for the engine and around 170-180 for the trans for the most part.
The brakes held up well, but we were careful to keep plenty of distance between us and those around us.
