Bent valve on #5 cylinder and some major cosmetic damage on #7 when the motor went lean. Got these with the 4X4 Lightning I bought last year. Off to Calvert's for a little work. :cool:

Wow Dennis, That looks like a mess! Maybe the picture is worse than it really is. Hope so.

I ran a set of TW's on my Mustang back in the day. They're a good cylinder head, and will support quite a bit of power. I had one of the earliest sets that had valve guide issues, but TFS made good on them. Make sure you have Calvert install a new set of manganese bronze valve guides in those bad boys while he has them.

On my 10.5:1, hydraulic roller, Cobra intaked, N/A 347, in ported form, those heads contributed to 380 RWHP/405RWTQ, and ran 11.40 at 118 in the 1/4, in a 5 spd, 3500 lb Mustang LX hatch.

Also, make sure you check your valvetrain geometry carefully. Due to the "twisted" valve/combustion chamber arrangement, they are more sensitive to valvetrain geometry issues, than the conventional cylinder heads(GT-40, AFR, Edelbrock Performer/Victor etc...etc...).

You probably knew this stuff, I just thought I'd throw it out there.:cool:

If I can put a few bucks into these and salvage them, it will be well worth the investment. They are Stage II TW Trickflows that flow 300/200 according to the previous owner. The mess was the result of a Kenne Bell setup that did not include enough boost in fuel pressure. There was also an assumption made that an FMU designed to work with mass air and 36# injectors will work the same way with SD (which it won't) and 36# injectors. I'll post pictures of the finished product. Calvert says it is no big deal to build up the dome and re-mill to spec. I'm going with new guides and springs and will replace the bent valve of course. It may require a valve job, but I'll just wait and see. :cool:

Sixpipes, it looks like there was a lot of fill in the new configuration --- what is the CC on the new heads and the old configuration>> what is going to be the impact on compression ratio>>:cool:

I suspect these are 61cc heads, but they do come in 64cc & 65cc. Valves are 2.02 intake/1.60 exhaust. I'd rather have the larger chambers for eventually using with the Kenne Bell, but since it is just going to be a street machine anyway, I guess it doesn't matter. :cool:

Impressive work for sure. You'll like those heads, they will definitely move some air! If you're mounting them up on a factory shortblock, then the CR with the 61cc chambers should still easily accomodate a blower. Keep us posted.:tu:

Bar none the Twisted Wedge is the best SBF head there is. While flow is important, cylinder head chamber design is also crucial. The chamber on the TFS is the most efficient of any head made for the Ford. The AFR may out flow the TFS but head to head it won't make more power and in my experience, will not produce better ET's. There is no other choice IMHO. I've used them all Dart (Windor JR & SR), TFS high ports (TW's too), Edelbrock (performer & RPM), AFR 185's, GT40's [Iron & Aluminum]and the TW's always work better.
