Well I filled up Friday and was above E. It cost 132.87:eek: and if it was really empty it would have neared 150 bucks:hammer: . There was also a sign on the counter of the truck stop saying the EPA has temporarily approved red non-road diesel for sale at the pumps. It stated that it will not harm your engine and may have a red dye in it.

I think thats what they sell to farmers.

I think that red diesel is pretty dirty too. :bs I'd be taking my business elsewhere.

I thought the red dye diseal was the exact same, but used for farm equipment. It was cheaper to buy, so to give farmers a break, but was dyed red so that it could only be used on the farm. Maybe I am wrong, but I am pretty sure it is the exact same fuel.

the farm diesel, or red dye dieseld actually runs better, all my friends used to run it in there diesels and they ran awsome,

the red dyed diesel is what we use in our turbo diesel trucks and diesel tractor mowers at DBU

The red diesel has sulfur in it. Thats the only difference. It burns a little hotter i believe. At this last job i just started at we had a tank for out disel trucks and a tank for the bobcat tractors.

The red dye is to identify the fuel as non road taxed diesel. It is also called aggricultural, construction, or refer diesel for the refrigeration units on semi trailers. The more sulfur the better it is a lubricant for the injectors. The engineers have had to work hard to make the fuel systems run on the low sulfur tree hugging diesel the EPA is mandating by 2007:Bullshit

Did my first fill up with the Transfer Flow last night. $132 for 41.3 gallons at $3.19 a gallon. Then this AM I find out that diesel has gone down 80 cents a gallon overnight. :hammer: Conoco at I20 and GSW has diesel and regular unleaded for $2.35 a gallon. I coulda' filled up for under a C note.

Damn...sure does.

Why does it seem that when gas was ~3.00 a gallon, I'd fill up the L and the pump stops at $75 ??? I wont let me buy more, do you guys just reset it or what ?

That has been driving me nuts, so I've been doing a little investigation. Although some gas station clerks will try to tell you that it's a function of your credit card, or card issuer, it is not. It's a policy put in place by the gas companies, and Exxon is the only one I've found that's doing the $75 cutoff for pay at the pump. Manager at the Exxon where I filled up last night said that that policy was in place when fuel prices were such that no one ever hit $75, and the idea was that if your credit card got stolen the thieves couldn't fill up multiple vehicles off one transaction. He said that Exxon was supposed to be upping that limit in light of current fuel prices. He thinks the new limit will be $150, but he doesn't know how soon it will go into effect. My guess, all of the fuel companies have a similar policy, just everyone else increased their maximum amount much faster than Exxon has.

As for how I deal with it, the first time it happened I got seriously twisted. Knowing it was likely last night, I went inside the station, handed them my credit card, and explained that I wanted to fill up on the diesel pump to the tune of $150 or so. They ran my card for $200, but didn't close the transaction. When I got through and went back in they closed the transaction, showing the $132 purchase and the $67 credit all on the same transaction. Weird, and a hassle, but it worked.

OK, time for a major CORRECTION. The guy who went past the Conoco transposed two digits. the price is $3.25, not $2.35. :hammer:

I made a stop for diesel tonight. 3.09 per gallon at the Stop and Go by my house. So I am standing there watching the pump tick away, when I noticed regular unleaded was 2.58. Being a gambling man and believing that diesel will follow the price down, I put about 10 gallons in and stopped. We will see if my gamble pays off...I think diesel is going to come down...what say the rest of you diesel users?

I'll vote with Rocks, but only to $2.99 or so. They seem to be pretty consistently keeping diesel about $.40 a gallon higher than regular unleaded.

I drove to hell and back the last two days 900 miles plus. I saw a consistent diesel price 70 cents above regular. Oklahoma has the cheapest fuel in the country. Here is just south of OK city.

It was 3.25 in Texas and Kansas. it makes me want my blue truck back..

I don't believe this sh!t is happening. The only damned reason I bought a diesel was because diesel was 50 cents a gallon cheaper than gas last summer. I am seriously considering trading in for the V10 F250. Even if I have to take a hit on the trade, I will make the money back in fuel savings.

Something to think about for a conspiracy theory. The fuel companies allow gas to drop so that the average consumer is happy about fuel prices. Then the bastards raise the price of diesel to make up for it. The average dipshit consumer is still paying in the way of higher priced goods, but the stupid sons of bitches don't think about it while they pay 20% more for everything they buy.

Don't disagree with your sentiment, or your theory. But, I still think diesel is cheaper per mile than a V10 F250. Figure 10 MPG on the V10, and a cost per gallon of $2.60, versus the diesel 15 MPG at a cost of $3.20. The 50% better economy more than makes up for the greater cost per gallon. And I don't think I'd consider an F250 on gas with anything other than the V10. The 5.4 just don't have the grunt for a 7K+ lb truck.

15 MPG !!!!!!!!!!!!!! WTH....I am only getting around 13. Now I am going to have to bitch slap Terry:eek: .

I have a friend who went with the V10 about the same time I bought my diesel(March). I need to ask him what he gets for milage. He tows commercially with that truck and I feel pretty sure I would get higher milage than he does.

Good points though on the cost/savings. I need to think about it more I suppose.

13 MPG? Ack!! I got over 13 towing this sea anchor last night.

http://www.svtgalleries.net/gallery/data/500/medium/blind2smudge.jpg

Unloaded, I've regularly been getting 15, with expectations that it will get better. Not really broken in yet, just at 8K miles, and I keep hearing that it takes over 10K to fully break in the PS. Terry did the 4" exhaust a week or so ago, and I'm hoping to get 1 MPG out of that.

Well I spoke with my Yankee bud today. He is getting 8-9 MPG while towing with his V10. He only gets 10 around town when not towing.... WTF...that is some crappy milage. I didn't realize there was this much difference. Ford should get the V10 tuned better or something.

I guess my diesel isn't so bad yet.

Fuel prices MAY help the V10 have some value in the future. Only two years ago you could not GIVE a V10 away. When Jimmy bought his Excursion the diesels were 24-28K and the V10's were $13-17K. Plus a diesel holds value over 100K miles where as a gas engine is worthless over 100K. Ford advertises a 300K mile service life on the PowerStroke engine. I get 16.7mpg in the city, 17-18 on the highway at 70mph, and 11-12 towing the 10K lb trailer with vehicle in it. A V10 is LUCKy to get 10mpg empty and 7 hauling a bicycle. Like Rocks I was looking at diesels when it was 1.62 a gallon and gas was 2.43 etc.. Knowing todays prices I would have still bought a diesel because they last twice as long as a gas engine and hold almost double their resale value. When I was looking for a used F250 I could steal a gas Xcab for 14K, and all of the PSD Xcabs had over 100K miles and were still over 24K so I paid another 10K and bought a brand new truck. I am glad I got the 05 with all the new parts and suspension. Plus with all of my driving I was glad to start at zero miles and not 85 or 120K:tu:

I'll make it a point to ask my Uncle what MPG #s are like on his 7.3L PS., for comparison.

They have a 35ft.+ travel trailer they pull to SE. OK. (week-end cabin) and NE. OK. to "Little Sahara", regularly with all their 4-wheelers in-tow.

Dirk has one of the last 7.3L PSs - 4-door F350.

Okla. diesel, too.

Yep....I recall having a few conversations with you about the V10 before I bought the diesel. So far...you where right on the money with your thoughts. No regrets just yet...but I will still grumble everytime I put fuel in her.
