Models with mobile service provided by Cingular Wireless, Sprint and Verizon Wireless are locked to work only with SIM cards and/or service plans from that specific mobile service provider.

Is it a cingular phone ? or Locked to some other provider ??

I'am 99.9 percent sure that it is locked to cingular service.

You can get the Cingular Phone unlocked - Its just a pain .. I have a Cingular treo 650 that I called Cingulars support number early one Sat and told them I was flying to the Ukraine and needed the Subsidy unlock number - The emrgency support folks gave it right to me - Mine is now unlocked and can use any GSM chip ...

PS Cingular JUST came out with a formware update for thier T650 phones that improves memory usage and voice quality

The phone has been updated to the new software package that saves battery life and improves sound quality on calls.

So what is needed for Verizon srvc?

I don't see how it can be switched to Verizon. Verizon uses CDMA technology and Cingular uses TDMA. The two systems aren't compatible.

Unless the phone is dual mode, you can only take it to another TDMA vendor. AT&T used to be the other big one, but now it's all Cingular. Sprint uses CDMA also.
If it does TDMA and CDMA, that would be very cool and portable.

Called Verizon to see and ended up getting a new one with the bluetooth headset for just a bit under that price.

I think that the Sony Ericsson PDA phones are dual mode. Wanye you got an awesome deal on your phone.

It's certainly possible. Even if it's not dual mode, Cingular has 52 million customers and those TREOs are really nice.

Instead of saying TDMA, I should have said GSM since that's what Cingular is currently loading. The TDMA technology is what they moved from although I'm sure they still sell a lot of phones that will do both.

Good luck with the sell.
