Wife is looking for desktop computer...needs to be Pent. 500 MHz or up, 64 meg plus, monitor, at least 5 gig drive and prefer eathernet card.

This keeps her off my laptop and my 10 year old from playing games on my machine.

Would prefer win98SE or XP installed.

Can't have $$$ cut too deep into mod budget.

A friend of mine has been buying from a place in Carrolton. I think the specs he quoted were:

Athon XP 1800+
128 PC133
20G HD
CD drive
Floppy
Case

You still need a Monitor, Mouse, Keyboard, and LAN card. But for $350 it is a good deal.

I will get the details from him in the AM.

You probably need to purchase and load your own OS also.

This is probably the place your friend was refering to. Doug helped me find this place. You can buy with or without operating systems.

As luck would have it he just called me MSC Computers, Josey and Beltline. Just look in the computer shopper for the latest prices, as they change daily.

They will build and burn it in for ~$20. If they assemble there is a 1yr warranty through them otherwise you have to go through the parts manufacture.

I assemble for beer.

What would the complete setup with 15" or larger monitor and eathernet run???
No need for something rockett ship like, all she is going to do is look at email and use MS Word, Excel and other.
I have all the software but need the drivers for NIC and others loaded.
Even a 400 MHz would be fine for her use.:twitch:

You can get a NIC for ~10. Now and then Fry's has 17" monitors for ~60, with rebate. Heck I may even have a spare NIC I
could donate to the cause.

I would flip if I had to gop back to 15". Work has got me spoiled, 21". I had to go out and buy a 19" for the home.

Tell you what I will see what I can digup tomorrow. I need a 400-500Mhz machine to do a little work here as well.

Sixpipes info sounds interesting also, Resource Concepts.

Ethernet is like $10 and if you can find 15" monitor it would be less than $70 or so
