Do you have to run Supreme Unleaded in the Gen 1 like you do in the Gen 2? I'm looking for an excuse to pick up a Gen 1 and lower gas prices would be a damn good reason!

It's gotta be super I'm afraid. Anything below 92 octane pings like hell. :nono:

:hammer: Oh well, if anyone comes across a clean Black Gen 1 for sale please pass the info on to me.

I ran 87 octane in my 93 and 87 octane in my 95 without any trouble. I do put 93 0ctane in when I go to the track. Both were basically stock.

Maybe my 95 is just spoiled. :D

You don't buy an Amercian V8 for mileage. I ran 89 in mine.

I typically run 89 but have ran 87 with no issues. Maybe Gary has his timing advanced a few extra degrees:confused:

Factory compression on these trucks is only 8.8:1. Unless timing is advanced beyond 14*, on an otherwise stock configuration, there should be no issues with 87 octane(assuming the engine is in a good state of tune).

The factory G1 GT-40 cylinder heads are iron, so they do not dissipate heat as well as aftermarket aluminum castings, but with such a low compression ratio, if it detonates with less than 14* of timing advance, then there's a problem with fuel/spark delivery...(clogged fuel filter, bad plugs, bad gas, bad plug wire etc...etc...).
Hope this helps...
