pc question

I have a DVD/cd drive that refuses to play the first song on every CD. Plus when it spins up, it's making a horrific noise...is this an indication that things are going south and a replacement is in the furure? If so, what brand(s) do you recommend. The one I have now is a Creative Labs... I really don't want a cheap @$$ piece of junk just to have to replace again in the very near future. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated from the experts out there...

Looks like a hardware issue. You nailed it. Just buy a brand name will be fine.

Before you put a bullet in it buy a can of air and blow it out
