My scan tool and chip flasher use serial and parallel ports respectively. I use an old Dell Latitude for this work since it has both ports built in. My Toshiba Satellite has neither:hammer: I would like to have it capable as a backup. I bought a USB HUB/Port replicator thingy from Comp USA and it didn't recognize or function correctly. I want a single unit that goes straight form USB to serial and straight from USB to parallel. Thanks computer dudes:beer:

2 options

Go to http://www.bb-elec.com/welcome.html to see if they have a Serial to usb cable that will work

Or Go to Ebay to find a port rep by toshiba for your model #

Here is one for the OLD Satelites for $3.00

I will warn you I have a Serial to USB cable for my GPS that allows me to avoid putting batteries in the GPS. Which is COOL - BUT the thing is FLAKY - it goes missing from windows for no reason. I have to unplug it and replug it tro make it start working again

I've been using replicators from Inside Out Networks for several years and I have been very satisfied.

http://www.ionetworks.com/Maybe the Edgeport 301-1000-21, I don't know what makes it different than the Comp USA multi port device. I think I saw a Targus adapter that was a single connector that plugged into the USB ans had a serial on the other end.

You should give MIke at IONETWORKS a call and tell him exactly what you need. I'm sure he can help you.
I think the replicators at COMP USA or any other retail store are strictly consumer level devices. If you want a high performance product you can't go to Autozone if you get my drift. ;)
