I got fed up with all the shedding being done by the dog so I bought two new shedding combs and went to town. The old comb was missing a lot. Anyone know of a legit use for dog hair? I spent 30 minutes and there is still surface hair to be had. I hope this makes him feel a little cooler in this hot arse weather.

I read something one time about a woman who saved all the hair off her Husky for several years, then spun it into yarn, and then made a sweater out of it. Not sure that's popular enough to try advertising Shadow hair.

Terry,

Good post! My family and I had a German Shepherd when I was a kid named "Woofie" b/c he looked like a wolf.

Mom/Dad have a pic of me @ 5-6 y.o. and Woofie w/me using him as a pillow. :)

Good dogs!

Ronald

RIP Woofie and our red heeler cowdog Pete ...:)

we give our dog a summer cut and just bought him a "cool pad" at Petsmart. Its some kind of funky technology that really works. It cools him down so much that he has to get off of it to warm up but now he lays on it all the time. Its activated by water and is guaranteed to last at least a couple of years.
Just in case you want to augment your dogs cooling.. does not use electricity and its kinda gel like in feeling so it gives the dog something soft to lay on, good on the joints and bones.

Thanks Dana, I will check it out. Sounds liek it would get messy in the summer though. I have a mister fan on him during the summer. His pen is covered and he has a 1/2" foam 4' square mat to lay on.

It isnt messy and its weird in that when you first feel it, its room temp but as you let you skin stay in contact with the pad, it starts cooling down. I would put this in place of the foam. The foam isnt cool and this pad is soft. They arent exactly cheap, but if it lasts a couple of hot summers, your dog will really appreciate it.. We also shave the dog except for the mane and tail. The no coat look is ok with the dog and he is much more comfortable as well.. then let the coat come back for winter..

Terry, if we can get a time to do the installs on the truck, then I can bring it with me and you can see it.. just a thought
