I feel like it would be a good idea to start a list of TALON members that are attending Lightningfest. I read the previous thread and here is what I have come up with so far. Please post up if you are going to attend, if you are going to the BBQ, and if you have paid.

I will keep up this list to the best of my ability and post up caravan and hotel plans as they develop.

Attendees

Doug
Terry
Gaven
Tom
Steve
Garett
Ronald/Elane
Crawford
Tim
JD Blackwell
Dennis (undecided)

Please go to www.Lightningfest2003.com (http://www.Lightningfest2003.com) for details about the event.

Here's the thread I posted a while back about the hotel with the group discount:

http://www.talonclub.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2352

We may want to bring it back up.

I'm not sure what days I have off. I think I'm set for the 25th-30th.

As far as caravan, we need to start posting on some of the nearby club boards about a consolidated caravan...100+ Lightnings trucking up to Topeka from Texas at once would be sweet.

By the way, we may need to consider buying one of those little 2-way radios so everyone in the caravan can converse. I will likely pick one up and will have my CB to keep tabs on what kind of law enforcement we may have in front of us.

Might as well consider me going. I would never forgive myself if I don't.

.. and Laney and I have 2 14-channel Motorola walky-talkys (from the U-Haul/L trip from IL) with us.

They worked very good the whole trip down except for a little crosstalk while passing through St Louis.

I would "coerce" Laney into 80-100mph flybys with me in the U-Haul just to see what the L looked like at speed. Hey, I was bored while driving in BFE IL/MS. :d

Someone is welcome to the other radio for the trip ... :tu:

I'm emailing Nan now for my NLOC # and to register. :burnout:

Steve,

It looks like we're covered comm. wise for now.

I just emailed NLOC Nan to resolve registration issues and am awaiting word.

After registration for the event, Laney and I "have" to get hotel registration and a room since I need a LAN/phone line for my work laptop since I'm the primary oncall for work in case I get a call.
Electronic LEASHs = :hammer: !

Let me know.

Im registered for the event and have reservations at the Capitol Plaza Hotel. I plan on road racing only. Im not much of a drag demon, I do like to check it out on TV though. Who is planning on staying at the Capitol Plaza? Hope to see everyone there. Happy Motoring. Get Pimperized!

I don't think I will make the caravan with you guys on the way up there, since I live 150 miles East of you guys. Shane (Madness) is coming up to my place on Thursday and we are going to load our trucks on a 18 wheeler and we are going to haul them up there. So we may meet you guys in Tulsa somewhere.

Also, I don't think I am going to do the drag race since you can EITHER drag or show. I think I will have a good chance in the truck show. If the eliminations get over with time to spare, I will make some passes. And I also signed up for the Autocross on Sunday too.

How cool is Lightningfest one might ask?

Well to answer this question, I went to weather.com to look at temperature averaging for the days we will be in Topeka, KS and here is what I found out:

Day - Sunrise - Sunset - Avg. High - Avg. Low - Mean - Record High - Record Low
25 7:13 AM 7:16 PM 77°F 52°F 65°F 92°F (1990) 33°F (1989)http://image.weather.com/web/blank.gifhttp://image.weather.com/web/blank.gif
26 7:14 AM 7:14 PM 77°F 52°F 64°F 96°F (1990) 32°F (1975)http://image.weather.com/web/blank.gifhttp://image.weather.com/web/blank.gif
27 7:15 AM 7:12 PM 77°F 52°F 64°F 93°F (1956) 35°F (1989)http://image.weather.com/web/blank.gifhttp://image.weather.com/web/blank.gif
28 7:16 AM 7:11 PM 76°F 51°F 64°F 104°F (1953) 34°F (1989)

If we run into average temperatures we will see some very nice racing weather! I cant wait!

We won't have a room number until we get there. We'll just have to ask for the penthouse or something....

So, whose gonna trash their room first?

That sounds pretty accurate for most of us, although you forgot all the beer drinking and lewd behavior! Friday is really just tech and the BBQ, so we'll probably be on our own most of that day after teching in. Saturday is the drag racing day and Sunday is road racing day. I'm planning on sticking around for the road racing to watch and hit the midway. Probably head back in the late afternoon or so.

I want to go BUT....Have a few issues to weigh and if I am going, I can not wait untill the last minute to decide.

1) I will be traveling on business from Monday the 22nd morning to Tampa and not returning untill Thursday the 25th at 9 someting in the morning... Will I even feel like driving that far after traveling?
2) I would need to make additional arangements on having my dog kept and fish fed (They too have to eat every day - salt water fish are funny that way).
3) I have no idea what class to run in...I would like to run all, but as this is NHRA rules and I do not have a roll cage, I would need to run on just motor or I would break out (Or get asked to "park it" as was the case with Ennis).
I could run the 12.2 or higher class, but I still risk breaking out of the 12.2 as my best motor only run was 12.261 with a 1.8XX sixty foot.
With the new traction bars and adjustable shocks and exhaust system (Courtsy of Performance Research), I should hook better (60 foot) and run stronger and thus the risk of breaking out of the 12.2 or higher class on motor only.

Part of me would almost just prefer to ride with someone else...keep the miles off my truck and film the whole thing with the camcorder,
The other part of me says "TO HELL WITH THAT" run that baby, that's what ya boiught it and modded it for dumb a$$!

I could always road course her...but I do not have but stock brakes and would really need EBC rotors and pads and with mod money being thrown down on both the "Poor-She" and the Lightning, I need to exercise SOME financial restraint...just in case I blow some $hit up...like my block
:hammer: :hammer:

Wouldn't that suck...ventilate the block on the Lightning and then have a problem with the "Poor-She" that would render me vehicleless untill one or the other were fixed...he[[, I don't know as you can open the hood on the "Poor-She" without it costing $500. or more.

What to do, What to do???

Can anyone make me a PVC roll cage inside the truck that will pass inspection and be removable after the event that does not require any mounting holes :evil

Wayne, I say just get or share accomadations up there and either ride up there or fly and we'll pick you up. No need to drive the L.
