Well, I went to lunch today in H-Town's Galleria (Treo in hand) and noticed a rather exotic-looking hot-rod as I was trying to find a parking space away from everyone else.

I had to check it out. Turns out it's an '06 SLR McLaren. Top speed 207.8 mph. 0-60 in under 3.8 seconds at 3,748 dry-weight. :bows

Here's the official url: http://www.mbusa.com/models/main.do?modelCode=SLR

Net HP 617 hp @ 6,500 rpm
Net TQ 575 lb-ft @ 3,250 - 5,000 rpm

Oh, and the best part - MSRP $452,750:eek2:

I'm in the wrong line of work.

Ronald

It looks like the car from "Ace and Gary" on SNL's TV Funhouse....

Look at the edge of the first pic, his L is all wavy and blurry, the SLR is better-focused. His cover is distorting the image.

Its amazing what you can find out on the internet.

Its actually an '05 SLR.

They paid $481,828 for the car. Not surprised there is a markup. :)

It belongs to a non-profit organization in Houston. What would a non-profit in Houston need with one of the top 5 supercars in the world? I don't know, but they donated $10,000 to Republicans for Arnold Schwarzenegger. But they broke some sort of rule and donated late, and in doing so, and were fined $1500.

There are four other vehicles registered at the same address, but not to the same owner. I am sure there is a reason.

Those are:

Hummer H2
Merc SL55
Undetermined Merc, four door sedan that cost $319k. (I could research it, but am lazy.)

And, because I love you guys, I clipped the review of this car from BBC Top Gear in 2004, and here it is:

Hmmmm...sounds like a little illegal activity is going on at that "not for profit" outfit. What would a church or YMCA or a homeless shelter need with a half million dollar car? Maybe Jesus wants to ride around in style or something...You could pretty much assume that those vehicles were bought with the donations of people who don't really know better. Maybe they are scientologists or something....:nono:

Whatever it is, I wish I would have thought of it first....:evil

I think its a non-profit like a grant-endowing organization, or a PAC.
