Well, I finally got my console in. I bought it off ebay around October of last year. I just now got all the nessassary pieces to get it in. Now all I have left to do is get my seat cut. (Upholstery shop anyone?) I used a how-to written by Chris Nelson over at SVTPerormance which was amazing. (http://www.svtperformance.com/forums/showthread.php?p=2149458)

Here are some pics.

I haven't got my seat cut up yet. Hopefully I will be getting it done sometime this week. I don't know where I am going yet, I was hoping someone on here would reccomend a good apolstry shop.

I hear there is some Canadian dude in Austin that loves to do upholstery projects. He looks something like this.

And when he's done, it looks something like this. :D

I have been wanting to do this mod for two years. I get mad at Ford every time I think about it. These trucks should have come that way from the factory. 60/40 seating was the single dumbest move Ford made with the Lightning. Nobody can sit in that center hump any darned way. What the hell where the design engineers thinking?

Rant Off now...

That Looks real good:tu: .

I agree. I took three people in my truck once. We drove down to Duncanville and it was the worst ride ever. The person in the middle had a terrible time. I like this a lot better

Why not use a driver's side seat (JUST the seat)?? I'd think that you could bolt it up to the passenger frame, and keep the stock one for resale later.

EDIT: Looks great, tho. What sort of console is that?

BC Lightning

looks like it is the small top console, I've been waiting awhile to mount my wide top (navigator) console for some time, I personally dont like the small top console, leaves too much of a gap in between the seats, although after seeing this thread it be time to mount it in soon

looks good!! :tu:

The smaller top is the earlier expy console, mine came out of a navigator, I have since painted it as well as my expy overhead console

I seem to remember that with a drivers-side seat swap, that the seat/frame holes don't match and require new holes drilled and new controls installed for the passenger - just what I seem to remember from a f150online thread along time ago.

That's not what I was saying, I was saying the seat itself, pulling the driver's side off it's frame, and putting it on the passenger slide frame.

Interesting...sounds simple enough to me. Maybe someone can post up on why or why not do this. Beats hell out of cutting and sewing the existing seat.

the main problem is finding the seat. Most people I doubt will sell one without the other seat.

Damned smartass... no wonder I likes ya.

I'm just asking, it just seems like it could work, tho I've not seen how the seat is mounted to the slide frames. Hell, it seems that would be hella easier than cutting the existing seat.

Actually...I wasn't trying to be a smart ass. I have never looked to see how the seat is mounted to the frame. If my truck where here, I would be in the garage right now checking it out.

If the issue is as Michael says, I bet that you are right about finding one out of a wrecked L. Back when this mod was first being done, extra seats where not near as available as they are now. Between wrecked Lightnings and the guys that are simply changing to race style seats...I bet one could be had for a reasonable price.

EDit...just saw your response Michael. That does make it cost more. Wonder how that cost compares to the cost of cutting and sewing?

Well, yer a smartass, anyway, so no sense breaking the streak. :d

I'm willing to bet that, if one has a friend in the automotive recycling business, or the friend of a freind, one can slip someone a bit of cash and obtain a single seat... :tu:

One reason to not use the driver's seat is that the power controls would be on the wrong side.

Hey Andy....haven't heard from you in awhile. Hope all is going well.

I think Tex was talking about taking the seat off of the frame. The controls actually mount on the plastic frame the seat mounts to.

Your right Andy, the controls would be on the wrong side. For a price, you can get anything made. Check this out. Dont ask me how I did it because it is one of a kind. Call me selfish if you want, but I want to be the only one that has it and it wasnt cheap to get the plastic moulded.:evil

I think that it looks so much better with the console, however, I am actually one of the few people that actually uses the middle seat regularly. Granted, it is not super-comfortable, but I have spent several hours in the middle and I'm not exactly a small guy. It's better than trying to fit in the back seat of the Mustang.

Not bad.. but I saw the reversed lettering on the floor mat, then pulled it down and sent it to a Linusti friend who spotted the reversal and the chop pixel errors. ;)

Actually, I had jumped into it this afternoon to read some responses, and had sent your "dog gets it" pic to the linusti pal; and I just got this feeling that maybe he had reversed it, so I looked at the pic, tried to send the link, which failed, so I DL'd the pic, then sent it to him.
